When they said, ‘We’re going to love you back to life,’ they really mean it.”
"I get to help people like me. That is usually when I talk about recovery, I start getting teary-eyed again because I'm doing what I always dreamed.” Cynthia's path brought her to where she is today. She remembers what she felt in more challenging times. “During active use, I felt hopeless. I had such a good life before my active addiction really started, but I couldn’t get back to it. Didn’t believe in myself. I had nobody. I had nothing. That’s not me at all. I’m a social butterfly.”
Things changed when other people made her feel welcome, especially when she attended a treatment program. "They accepted me with open arms. They knew what it was like. They still loved me. When they said, ‘We’re going to love you back to life,’ they really mean it.” More people can and do recover when we join #TogetherToEndStigma.
